I'm from Chicago ( the city, not the 'burbs) here for a wedding. Pleasantly surprised is a gross understatement. The Beef Eater was a revelation. Steamed Ciabatta Kaiser, Roast beef, pastrami, cream cheese? Genius. Delicious. The Clam Chowder was fresh, tasty. Mac and cheese etc, etc,..... I ordered quite a few items, hoping something was palatable. I ended up like Homer Simpson, drooling, stuffed, and happy. I'm seriously considering sneaking a couple of beef eaters into church. I've had B& B's, I frequent Taste of Italy, dig Grazianos, but man, this joint rocks. It's 3:00 am, and I 'm ripping the hotel fridge apart knowing someone stole my leftovers. Only 5 hours to opening! Do yourself a favor, if you need to knosh, this is the spot. I ate at the Ankeny spot.

My favorite deli place in Des Moines! I eat here every time I am in Des Moines. I have never been disappointed with a meal or service. I wish they were in my hometown.

A very happening spot during the week over the lunch hour. I have not had a bad meal here yet! And I work .5 miles away, so I'm here OFTEN. The menu is very large and there is something on it for all types of taste buds. Bon apetite!

Lemon bars are awesome. Love their chopped salads. My favorite sandwich is the apple orchard- smoked turkey, thin sliced green apples and apple butter.

disappointed in the size of the reuben - one customer had taken a pix of her reuben and there was 3" of corned beef on it. we drove 20 miles to go to Ingersoll and we had 3 slices of meat on our sandwich, very little sauerkraut and very little dressing!

Went with friends after landing at the airport. Great lunch options, and helpful, friendly staff. Waited in line only a brief time for sandwich service. Much better than all the chain "bread" restaurants. Enjoyed my tuna sandwich and minestrone soup; wish I could have tried more! Great open & modern atmosphere.

The food is great and the place runs like a fine tuned machine. Great service. I got up to go to the bathroom and when I returned one of the staff had already picked up my food and cleaned the table as it was the lunch rush and it was packed. I told one of the folks at the register and had a replacement salad within a minute. Impressed at the staff and overall service. Everything I've eaten there is an A+ as well.

I don't get to eat here as often as I would like but when I do i love the variety of options they offer. My favorite is the cabbage salad that they have it is unbelieveably good but may leave your breathe not quite so fresh afterwards lol. They have great sandwiches and spectacular salads! Pricing is fair for the high quality ingredients used. They offer breakfast as well though I have not been fortunate enough to try it as I assume it is also great. Check it out guys!

Sometimes the wait can be long or hard to find a table but it's worth it! Great sandwiches! Something for everyone!

Everything about Palmer's Deli & Market is average except for how confusing it can be to order when you first walk in. Why are there so many counters? Is this a grocery store? It's obviously going for the cafeteria a la carte trendy type restaurant thing, but I'm not into it at all. It's slow and a little pricey and the food is, surprise, average.

We wanted something other than our usual fast food stop on our cross country drive. It's very convenient to I80. We ordered the Marshall Field and Turnberry sandwiches. Both were very tasty. The posted menu adequately describes the sandwiches. Note: I asked to have the Turnberry toasted on the grill. It's a counter service restaurant with different counters for each type of item (i.e., sandwiches, soup, salad, etc.). There is also a separate deli counter with some pretty tasty looking sides. The service was a little bit lackluster, but whatever, I don't need a smile to make my sammie taste any better. The price was a bit steep for what you get ($6.99 for sandwich only). We would eat here again and would recommend to others.

Having recently returned to the Des Moines area from several years in Chicago we're on the hunt to stake out our new favorites for every food genre available. The Pro's to Palmer's are definitely the food. I got a reuben and sugar cookie and both were pretty good. I think the guy grilling my reuben forgot as he was making another patrons sandwich because it was a little too blackened (not just grill marks but completely black and burnt tasting) on one side. But I'm still giving it 4 stars as the quality of the ingredients was still amazing. As for the cookie, I think I died and went to heaven, so soft and delicious. The only cons I found were the price, 6.59 just for a sandwich (no chips no drink) and the cashier. As for the cashier she just wasn't the Iowa friendly type that I love to experience, but am hoping she was just still flustered from the lunch rush as it was post lunch time and not very busy when we went. For the price, I think Palmer's would be less successful if they had more competition. Say if a Specialtys, Potbelly's or Portillos came to Des Moines (Please restaurant Gods!) they'd have to do some evaluating of the pricing to stay competitive.

Everything I have gotten here has been good: soups, sandwiches, salads, and especially the desserts!! My motive for going here is often the desserts and I always walk away with at least 2 of them. My only complaint is that ordering is slow. They need a better system to get people through the sandwich/soup line.

I was in Des Moines for business for the past 3 days and each day, we ended up ordering from Palmers and I was okay with the repetition, as these sandwiches are delicious! First off, the boxed lunch deal is amazing: sandwich or salad, side dish, chips, cookie, and drink all for less than $8. But on top of good value, the food was OMG, which made this GREAT value. I had samples of all sorts of cookies, but the Molasses, Peanut Butter, and Cranberry Pecan were my favorite. The Magic Bar was a little too sweet for me, and others enjoyed the Chocolate Pixie very much. My absolute favorite sandwich: Turnberry. Turkey, Havarti cheese, cream cheese, cranberry chutney all on multigrain bread. Get it toasted, and the cream cheese is melted and oh so gooey. MM~!

Because I travel quite a bit, I really appreciate good variety. This place has it in spades. Everything is fresh and we'll prepared. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable. You can't ask for much more. The selection of sandwiches are only beat by their deli case of salads - all of which look amazing. I know a good rueben when I taste it and they are excellent here. The meat is lean and tender. They're not piled as high as some of your typical (and much higher priced) New York delis, to be sure. But mine was perfect for lunch. Highly recommended.

Fast and friendly; good gluten free options available. When we are traveling with a gluten-free child, lunches can be difficult. However, they offer not only gluten-free bread, but gluten-free dessert options as well.

Eat here. Do yourself a favor and don't ever go to Subway again if you are anywhere close to Palmer's. Yes they are a little more expensive than a national sandwich place but they more than make up for it in quality and taste. Excellent ingredients for the sandwiches and really good soups also. I have eaten here multiple times and never been disappointed. My favorites are the Marshall Field sandwich and the Apple Orchard sandwich.
